John moved from Ontario to British Columbia in 1999. Inspired by the natural beauty of British Columbia and its wildlife, he discovered the impact that west coast colours had on his work.
John spent the next several years taking pictures, and by 2019 had shot over 100,000 photographs.
Suffering from life-long anxiety, John discovered how photography helped him move from a pervasive feeling of emotional darkness towards an awakening light. At the outset, his photographs were very personal, but he soon felt comfortable sharing his art publicly.
Showcased on four separate occasions, John was selected among the top three finalists in Surrey’s Turnbull Gallery ‘Double Exposure’ competition. His artistic pursuits are not limited to the British Columbia landscape, as a recent trip to Alaska was the subject for his latest solo show, “Alaska: The Final Frontier.” John’s image of the waterfowl species, the American Wigeon, appeared on the cover of the 2014 winter edition of Ducks Unlimited Canada magazine, entitled “Reviving the Banks”.
John’s work is rooted in pictorial and expressionistic styles and he continues to create new photographic art both for himself and to exhibit.
