James M. Peaslee (Jim) is a New York City based art photographer.
Born in 1952, Peaslee has been a photographer for 50 years. His formal photography education began in 1970 at Yale under Walker Evans. He also attended the Rocky Mountain School of Photography Summer Intensive program in Missoula, Montana in 2018.
Peaslee grew up in the New York City, Los Angeles, and Paris, France. He attended Yale, Harvard Law School, and NYU Law School, and spent his career specializing in tax law.
Jim’s work explores a range of subjects - most pictures are stark, and often consciously simplified. Many show isolated individuals, and buildings and structures are devoid of people, some with figures in silhouette or shadow. Peaslee credits Edward Hopper and Walker Evans as influences.
