A retirement, after twenty years
After twenty inspiring years building Truth and Beauty and The Commotion, Peppa has announced her retirement. It’s been an amazing ride filled with wonderful experiences, brilliant colleagues, and memories she will cherish forever, and one she is closing with real gratitude rather than regret.
As The Commotion Digital Gallery concludes its run, heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who has been part of this meaningful endeavour — the photographers represented, the collectors who trusted the gallery’s eye, and everyone who showed up for a talk, a workshop, or an opening.
Twenty years, two galleries
Truth and Beauty opened its doors in Vancouver in 2005. Fifteen years later, in 2020, it was reimagined as The Commotion Digital Gallery — a single continuous project spanning two decades of contemporary photography, carried by one director through two very different formats.
Truth and Beauty becomes The Commotion
The former storefront gallery’s re-positioning online furthered its dedication to the presentation and advancement of contemporary photography, organized from that point forward around four pillars: the Print Room, the Online Viewing Room, Culture, and Community.
Ninety-plus photographers, one collection
Over the course of both galleries, the Print Room has grown to represent individual works from over 90 independent, international photographers — a roster built one exhibition and one relationship at a time.
